The position for which LBCC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs Gaither Loewenstein was one of three finalists ultimately went to another candidate.

Missouri State University-West Plains Dean Christopher Dyer beat out Loewenstein and former Berkeley City College president John Garmon for the position of executive director of the University of New Mexico Gallup.

In mid-April, each candidate conducted an open forum, in which employees, students and Gallup community members had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.

Dyer currently serves as dean of academic affairs and is a tenured professor of anthropology at Missouri State University — West Plains.

Christopher Dyer will assume his position on July 1, said UNM’s President Robert Frank.

Loewenstein was unavailable for comment regarding the topic.
