Six students at LBCC were awarded with the Viking Award on Tuesday, May 16, for their contributions in helping the student community.

The Viking Award winners are: Cindy Macias, 20, a sociology major, Amanda Amiroff, 20, liberal studies major, Bertha Lynn, 52, a business administration major, Sok Hak Phan, 20, an electrical engineering major,  Erick Mazariegos, 23, a communication studies major and Hayley Hart, 34, a journalism major.

Mazariegos, who is also current president of LBCC’s ASB, said, “It’s really great to receive this award, I just try to help out the community here at school.”

The winners were in complete surprise when they had arrived. Dean of Student Affairs Ramon Knox, informed the students they will be properly honored in a ceremony to invite their friends and family. Knox said, “To pick the students was a definitely a team effort in my department, but we made the right choice with these amazing students.”

Lynn felt honored for being noticed for her work with the student community. She said, “I always feel I can do so much more to help others.”
