Hillary Clinton will visit LBCC for a rally starting at 6 p.m. today, Monday, June 6,  in the Hall of Champions gym at the LAC. now lists a Get Out The Vote rally open to the public and doors will open at 4 p.m. instead of 2 p.m. as previously reported.

An email to students and employees late Sunday, June 5, confirmed Clinton’s visit with reminders to expect an increase in traffic and parking congestion around Veterans Stadium. No parking will be allowed next to the gymnasium in Lots K, L and P all day. Employees may park in staff spaces in the Lot J parking structure or Lot M Veterans Stadium.

Also mentioned was the increase of police and security activity on campus throughout the day.

Vivian Malauulu, trustee-elect for the Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees
and journalism professor, said, “Regardless of one’s political views or personal choice for U.S. president in this unprecedented pending election, the fact that our college was chosen as a rally stop for Secretary Clinton is monumental.”
Malauulu said, “The future of financing Community Colleges in America has been a hot topic on many political stages as of late, which is why Secretary Clinton making a campaign stop at LBCC serves to solidify how important ventures such as the Long Beach College Promise are to our country’s educational model.”
Reports indicate that perhaps President Eloy Oakley’s strong connection to the Democratic party and the national recognition of the Long Beach College Promise may have led to the decision by the Clinton organizers to add LBCC to its list of campaign stops just before the primary election Tuesday, June 7.
The LBCC Communications Department suggests arriving early for class and work. Students are encouraged to attend their finals as scheduled for Monday, June 6, unless otherwise notified by their teachers.
